Council Members please note: The visit of the E.ON Power Station and the Council meeting are at the same time!
E.ON Kraftwerke GmbH is operating power stations making use of the energy sources coal, gas, oil or biomass at more than 30 sites in Germany. Furthermore, we are evolving into specialists as far as the Europe-wide construction of conventional power stations is concerned.
The Scholven power station came from the former mining company Hibernia. It was once responsible for supplying the pit system with the energy it required: in the form of steam, electricity and compressed air. The power station site was continuously adapted to meet the increasing demands for electricity. The Buer district heating plant and the Scholven and Zweckel steam plants are also part of the power station complex. The Scholven power station is currently one of Europe’s largest plants with an overall output capacity of around 2,100 megawatts.

ThyssenKrupp Steel AG
Unlike the other industrial visits the excursion to ThyssenKrupp Steel takes place on Friday between 11:45 AM and 6:00 PM.
Council Members please note: The visit of ThyssenKrupp Steel and the Council meeting are at the same time!
ThyssenKrupp Steel stands for innovation in the area of steel. The company is a trendsetter with regard to high-tech steels, tailored products and innovative surfaces. The Europe-wide first casting roller facil-ity or the most modern cold rolling mill of the world TAKO in Duisburg show the pacemaker role in the field of key technologies.
Steel is constantly being further developed. The optimization of the characteristics opens up new areas of application. ThyssenKrupp Steel meets the increasing request for lightweight construction and security by the automobile industry with innovative steel products. Examples are stronger and most solid steels which are simultaneously easy to transform and tailored blanks, with which, depending on the respective composite, allow weight reductions up to 40%. In the future Tailored Tubes will make space frame constructions possible, which are as light as aluminium solutions, but can be realized at a more reasonable prize. ThyssenKrupp Steel AG has demonstrated this with its innovative car-body concept NewSteelBody (NSB@). Innova-tions for the construction industry are sloartec-photovoltaik-modules, fire-resistant steels and tailor-made design beams. Completely new surfaces for steel products and new functionalities, such as scratch resistance and easy-to-clean effects are being developed in the DOC Surface Center in Dortmund. Thys-senKrupp Steel employs around 39.000 staff. The company had a turnover of more than 13 billion EUR in the financial year 2006/2007. The outcome before taxes was more than 1,6 billion EUR.

According to a survey of Lufthansa this region is an economic area, which is the seventh biggest in the world. 18 million people are living in the patch of the airport within a 100 kilometre distance. Within Europe the settlement of this region is comparable to London and Paris in regards to structure. Düsseldorf as a region comes third in regards to gross domestic product, right after London and Paris.
Düsseldorf International is not only a successful company; it is also a major economic factor and one of the most important employers of the region. Actually it is the biggest workplace of Düsseldorf. There are round about 15,900 jobs at approximately 220 companies and departments. Just within the last year 900 new jobs have been created, which come along with additional economic effects for the whole region. The empirical formula says: one new job at the airport, results in at least two more jobs for the region. Overall round about 50,000 jobs of the region depends on the existence of the airport.
